'NCIS' season 13 will see how the events happened last season will shift the world of Leroy Gibbs and how it will affect among other characters, especially with Tony Dinozzo. It was revealed that the Dinozzo and Gibb's friendship will be "super-tested". Gibbs will have a new confidant Dr. Cyril Taft.
'NCIS' season 12 left fans a big question about Leroy Jethro Gibbs' fate after he was shot twice by the same boy he had befriended upon the arrival in Afghanistan. But it was later confirmed that Gibbs is alive and he will recover during the 13th installment.
But actor Rocky Carroll has questioned Gibbs' comeback. Carroll has teased fans that Gibbs may survive but he might not be the same person we have seen from the previous seasons. He said that second gunshot wound was not just a flesh wound but the bullet went through Gibbs.
And one of the possible effects the last season's tragedy will affect Gibbs' friendship with Tony Dinozzo. According to CrossMap, NCIS Executive Producer Gary Glasberg confirmed that there will be some tension between Gibbs and Tony DiNozzo, despite the support of Gibbs team for his recovery.
Additionally, Tony will be successful in taking The Calling down, stating, "It dramatically gets resolved. Tony really rises to the occasion."
Seemingly, Tony and Gibbs' complicated friendship is part of the "shift" going to happen next season. Actor Michael Weatherly told TVLine that, "I think what we're going to have this year is a fundamental shift in the show - and that's a fascinating thing to see... I think the audience will respond with great interest to some of the tonal changes."
Latest 'NCIS' season 13 spoilers from Entertainment Weekly also revealed that Gibbs will have a new confidant. Dr. Cyril Taft, a Navy surgeon, is one of the people who will help Leroy recover. The character will be played by Two and a Half Men alum Jon Cryer.
In an interview, Cryer described his character, who will only appear at least 3 episodes, as, "He's kind of the Jeff Goldblum of naval surgeons. Bit of a wiseass. Way too comfortable making jokes in the operating room. Can probably play a mean jazz piano."
