‘Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice’ Update: Did Robin Become The Joker in the Film’s Universe?

By

A new fan theory has surfaced online claiming that Jared Leto's Joker is not actually the original Clown Prince of Crime, but a former superhero sidekick that Affleck's Batman remembered in the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer. Many fans theorize that Jason Todd, also known as the second Robin, did not literally die in Zack Snyder's universe, but transformed into the Joker.

Over the past several months, it has been speculated that the former Robin, Jason Todd, is actually DC Cinematic Universe's the Joker. Recently, one fan has stumbled upon new and visible evidence that seemingly backs up this idea. A sharp-eyed Reddit user DeathByRequest caught something interesting in Robin's suit in the "Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer and the Joker's promotional portrait for "Suicide Squad".

The charred Robin costume seen in the video clip appears to have two bullet holes on the left and right shoulder which corresponds to the scars of Jared Leto's character. While it is a small detail to hang such a big theory on, it does somehow make sense. And when you observe carefully, this theory would also explain why the Joker seems younger than Affleck's Batman when the two is supposedly fighting each other for years already. Thus, it is possible that the original Clown Prince of Crime to have swayed or turned the second Robin into a villain like him, metaphorically "killing" him instead of literally. It is safe to assume then that somewhere down the line, the original enemy died and Jason Todd took over the mantle.

Meanwhile, the Joker is rumored to be making an appearance through a flashback in the upcoming "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice", hinted through the defaced suit of Batman's former sidekick. Though it is still unconfirmed, it could be possible that the fan theory stated would be presented through Batman's memory. Jason Todd may not be the best known "Batman" character to casual moviegoers, but discovering him as the new Clown Prince of Crime could go down as one of the biggest plot twists of all time.

"Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" also stars Henry Cavill, Gal Gadot, Jesse Eisenberg, and Amy Adams. Directed by Zack Snyder, it is expected to open in cinemas March 23, next year.
