‘Batman’ Standalone Movie Update: Jason Todd Is The New Villain as the 'Red Hood'; Film To Premiere on 2018?

Former Robin, Jason Todd is speculated to be the Dark Knight's new villain in Ben Affleck's upcoming "Batman" standalone film. The superhero's next solo film is reportedly slated to open in cinemas in November 2018.

Ever since the alleged photo of the solo "Batman" film document has been leaked online, the movie has already started generating numerous rumors and theories. One of the speculations that continue to float today concerns the main villain of the film. While the Dark Knight has already battled numerous antagonists in the comics, there are predictions surfacing recently that he could possibly fight his former sidekick, Jason Todd, in his next movie.

For those who are not familiar with the character, Jason Todd was the second person to take the mantle of the superhero's sidekick, Robin. It was noted that Batman's original partner, Dick Grayson, has left the position to move on as his own masked superhero. According to Latino Post, DC Comics killed off his character in the hands of the Joker after being gruesomely beaten. Unfortunately, he ended up caught in an explosion in which Batman was not able to save him on time. Later on, he is brought back to the DC-verse as a part of the criminal organization, Red Hood.

It was noted that in the "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice" trailer, Ben Affleck's Bruce Wayne received a letter (a cutout of a newspaper article about the death of numerous people after the events in 'Man of Steel') which has the words "You Let Your Family Die." Tech Times predicts that Jason Todd may have been the one behind the message, considering his knowledge about Bruce Wayne's identity. According to the outlet, BVS is suspected to feature the origins of Todd's Robin along with his ill-fated death. If true, then the film might serve as a prologue to the Batman solo film where Todd could be the Red Hood.

Though this is a mere speculation, it somehow fits to the story well. Currently, Ben Affleck's standalone film has not commenced its production yet. But as seen in the leaked Warner Bros. document, it has which has a target release date of November 2018.
