Guy Ritchie's new King Arthur movie Knights of the Round Table will spin a new version to the 5th Century British leader. Actor Charlie Hunnam as King Arthur promises an action-packed medieval epic far from previous portrayals of the legendary British king.
From motorcycles to medieval costumes, Charlie Hunnam is the director's pick for the upcoming epic tale of 5th Century legend King Arthur in Knights of the Round Table. Deadline notes that Guy Ritchie's choice for Hunnam to play Arthur is absolutely brilliant. Hunnam's critically lauded performance of a hell-bent motorcycle gang leader in FX's Sons of Anarchy is arguably better suited for kingly status than portraying Christian Grey in the erotic romance drama 50 Shades of Grey.
Hunnam revealed in January of this year for Men's Journal that he attributes his acting pursuit to the story of King Arthur. Hunnam admits that he is truly honored to have been chosen to play a character close to his heart, and further explains that he would watch any of the movies about King Arthur when he was younger. Luckily enough, his work with some intense stick fighting scenes for Guillermo del Toro's Pacific Rim better prepared him for sword training and the physical aspect of portraying Guy Ritchie's King Arthur.
Entertainment Weekly's visit on the set reveals that Guy Ritchie's take on the King Arthur story will definitely be a new take on the epic tale of galant knights and chivalry. Knights of the Round Table centers around the tale of Arthur, an orphan raised by three prostitutes in 5th Century medieval England. According to Hunnam, Ritchie's Arthur is a "street kid" and "a little bit rough around the edges", a signature clear-cut Guy Ritchie character. Ritchie's take on the classic tale will also feature new elements straight out of a fairy tale and will see Arthur facing new foes like giant snakes and viking-like monsters.
Knights of the Round Table has wrapped up its final day of shooting and is currently in post-production. Warner Bros has yet to reveal a definite release date, but the movie is expected to come out Summer of 2016.
