Law and Order: SVU Season 17 Spoilers: Amaro Leaves, Rollins' Sister Returns and Rollins' Mother Arrives

By

For 17 years, Law and Order: SVU (Special Victims Unit) continues to surpass the test of time as it launches on September 23 its 17th season. The pilot episode of the newest season gives us a closer look on one of its detective, Amanda Rollins while the squad figures out Robert Durst case.

For a simple recall, remember that Season 16 finale ends with detective Nick Amaro (Danny Pino) leaving the squad because of the promotion he can't get. Amaro heads west with his family and leaves his partner in the squad Rollins alone. Showrunner Warren Leight, however, told Entertainment Weekly as reported by Latin Post that Amaro might be brought back once the story calls for it.

For the meantime, Leight brings back Rollins' sister in the next season. Leight told TV Guide that Rollins' sister is returning in the show and is tagging along their mother in season 17 as reported by Christian Post. Rollins' sister and mother joins Rollins in the next season with the intention to show support to her but Leight spills further to TV Guide that he himself is not even sure if it is a great thing for Rollins.

Another interesting idea that the character of Rollins can bring on the table next season is rumored to be anchored on the fact that the actress who portrays it, Kelli Giddish, is actually pregnant. Leight teases Mega Buzz as reported by TV Guide that by the end of the premiere the audience will know the answer as to the possibility of having Rollins pregnant in season 17.

Amaro's absence, Rollins' sister and mother's arrival brings changes in Law and Order: SVU but the series continues to solve more crimes and to address affairs of its characters. Law and Order: SVU premieres on September 23 at 9 pm in NBC and airs every Wednesday afterwards.
