Witcher 3 Developer Suggests to Other Studios for Free DLC to be the Norm, Released 16 pieces for the open-world game

CD Projekt Red recently released all the 16 pieces of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt's free downloadable content (DLC) for the open-world game. This is available for all platforms - PS4, Xbox One, PC. When the campaign wrapped up this week, the Polish game developer made a call to other studios to do similar campaigns - to make free DLC become the standard in the whole gaming industry, and not the exception.

As reported in Gamespot, CD Projekt Red co-founder and CEO Marcin Iwinski thanked all those who played their game and gave their DLCs a try. "Nothing makes a developer happier than seeing gamers have fun with what they created."

Iwinski somewhat proposed for other developers to follow suit with regard to offering free DLCs for their gamers. He said, "I would really like to see such initiatives become an industry standard rather than an exception to the general rule, and I hope that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has set a good example."

The company had been releasing free DLCs since the game's launch. This is their way to pay gratitude to the gamers, as they had paid for the game in full.

The 16 free add-ons were mostly weapon sets, armor, and other cosmetic items, according to GameRevolution. The latest new update though comes with New Game+ which will definitely produce incredible replay value to the game.

With all these encouraging campaigns proposing to other gaming studios to make free DLCs, CD Projekt Red is open for plans for paid Witcher DLC as well. Gamespot shared that the developer will release an expansion for Hearts of Stone in October. Another add-on, called Blood and Wine, will be launched in 2016. These expansions will add around 30 hours of gameplay.

This pronouncement was caught up by gaming forums and communities. Some said that several developers had been doing the same thing for quite some time. Blizzard had been doing the same with their game patches for Diablo 3 and Heroes of the Storm, while Respawn Entertainment did it with Titanfall. Others were blunt, saying that these campaigns are good publicity, as it will prompt those players who were not interested or were not able to buy the game at launch.
