Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update Guide: Developers Preview 3 for Google Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, and Nexus Player

Google's own Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Players are among the lucky devices to be dressed by its latest Android 6.0 Marshmallow developer preview update. Now in its third update, developer preview promises the best Android update in history.

First introduced last May at the I/O 2015 event, Android 6.0 Marshmallow or what used to be the Android M in its promo stage brings in custom Chrome tabs, app linking, overhauled app permissions, power management, fingerprint support, Android Pay, and Type-C USB support, among others.

Although official Marshmallow update will be made available by the end of September to select smartphones and tablets, Android 6.0 Marshmallow treats first Google's Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9, Nexus Player devices in its third update to pilot the latest Android stock firmware.

The Nexus devices will get the official over-the-air (OTA) developer preview 3 update even if the 1 and 2 previews were installed. Marshmallow developer preview 3 can also be downloaded manually if not notified by Google automatically.

To manually download the Android 6.0 Marshmallow developer preview 3, here's a good way to go:

1. Download the ADB tools.

2. Unpack the zip file.

3. Turn into fastboot mode.

4. Double click "flash-all.bat" file.

Note that the factory image of Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player is different from one another. Make sure as well that the extracted ADB tools and factory image are in the same folder.

To begin installation, the device should be in fastboot mode by pressing long the power button and volume down button at the same time. After the reboot, the device shall automatically reboot. Do not forget to back up important files and charge up the battery up to 50 percent.

With the new features and changes brought by Android 6.0 Marshmallow, Nexus owners can also enjoy other improvements and major tweaks.

Other manufacturers have yet to finalize schedules for the Androif 6.0 Marshmallow release.
