Android 5.1 Lollipop update begins rolling out to Verizon's HTC One M9 smartphones unexpectedly taking with it solution to Stagefright vulnerability attack. HTC's Mo Versi confirmed via Twitter today.

Verizon Wireless is finally releasing the Android 5.1 Lollipop update to its One M9 units following rollouts in the U.S. by other major mobile carriers like T-Mobile, Sprint and AT&T. While Stagefright vulnerability attack comes with Android 5.1.1 Lollipop for others, HTC provides the fix ahead of 5.1.1 to keep up with the other brands in the tech department.

HTC's Vice President for Product Management Mo Versi announced the good news on Twitter earlier today and it comes with the Stagefright fix.

Stagefright vulnerability attack has been widespread across Android phone users. In fact, Google revealed that 95 percent of smartphones and tablets across the board (including devices of Samsung, LG, Motorola, and Sony, among others) are affected by the bug.

Stagefright operates via a video message sent to apps like Google Hangout and Whatsapp. It is indwelt in Android's system and is capable to destroy and steal important data of the phone. Once the video message is clicked, the attack will commence without the user knowing it.

Aside from the Stagefright fix, Android 5.1 Lollipop also brings useful features and notable changes like device protection, smarter Wi-Fi, improved priority mode, more convenient volume changing, more convenient to connect to Wi-Fi and Bluetooth, easier alarm volume changing, additional new icons, new SIM card icon, and more animations.

Device protection is an anti-theft protection. When a device with such feature is lost or stolen it will remain locked unless the owner's Google account will be used for signing in, not even with restoring its factory settings.

The new software update also supports LTE bands 3 and 7 when roaming. This allows the phone to connect to high-speed Internet and mobile connection outside the country.

If the update has not yet come to your device, just head over to Settings > About phone > Software updates > Check for update. Follow onscreen instructions.
