Although confirmed for the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update soon as announced by an executive, HTC One M9 alongside One M8 and One M7 are now getting an official over-the-air and custom release for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update.
First reported to get the update by July, HTC has moved its installation schedule in September in the United States according to reports. This means that the announced Marshmallow update for One M9 might be coming a month after its debut in September, October in particular.
Major mobile carriers in the U.S. like Verizon Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile and Sprint however have just released the Android 5.1 Lollipop update for One M9. While no one have hinted of the 5.1.1 upgrade for now.
According to reports, One M9 users in Europe, Africa and the Middle East will first receive the update before other regions in the world.
Meanwhile, the advanced and anticipated user interface of HTC Sense 7 is rumored to hit devices this August. Based on this report, most likely another update will come for One M9, One M8 and One M7 before the month ends. Nothing is official as of now though.
For One M8 Google Play Edition (GPE), 5.1.1 Lollipop is reported to hit the device since it was confirmed it would skip 5.1. The device is also slated to receive the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update with Sense 7. Exact however was not confirmed.
Some reports are sad though with One M8 in the U.S. since no carrier has rolled out the 5.1.1 Lollipop as announced earlier this week. One M8 still has the Android 5.0 Lollipop software. All updates bring the stagefright vulnerability solution.
For HTC's 2013 flagship smartphone One M7, users can update the phone via a custom ROM via CyanogenMod CM12.1. Before heading to manual download, make sure that the device is charged up to 50 percent. Back up all important files since the upgrade will remove all data stored in the phone.
Other brands in the market already heading to Android 6.0 Marshmallow from 5.1.1 Lollipop are Samsung Galaxy Note 5, Galaxy Note 4, Galaxy S6 Edge+, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6, Galaxy S5, Motorolo Moto G 2015, G 2014, G 2013, E 2014, and E 2013, among others.
