Sony Pictures gives the remake of Stephen King's "The Dark Tower" a January 13, 2017 release. It will contend with Lionsgate's "Power Rangers" movie which will debut on the same day.
After the long and seemingly torturous development of "The Dark Tower" remake, Sony has finally given the project a release date. Just recently, the studio unveiled the movie dates for its 16 upcoming projects, including the first installment of "The Dark Tower" franchise. As previously reported, Sony intends to adapt the book series into a franchise of movies which will be linked to a complementary TV show similar to Ron Howard's version a few years ago.
Based on Stephen King's novel series of the same name, "The Dark Tower" centers on the last member of the Gunslingers, Roland Deschain, and his journey to the mysterious Dark Tower. According to Screen Crush, the story unfolds in Mid-World where he rescues a young boy named Jake who decides to go with him in his journey. As previously reported, the upcoming film will focus on the pair's relationship, also revamping the fantasy and horror feels of the story.
The new adaptation will be helmed by Nikolaj Arcel. Arcel is best known for directing the films "A Royal Affair", "Truth About Men", and "Island of Lost Souls", as well as writing the Swedish adaptation of "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo". "The Dark Tower" is being produced by by Imagine Entertainment's Ron Howard, Brian Grazer, and Erica Huggins, Pinker, and Goldsman via Weed Road Pictures.
There are no actors currently attached to play the roles of Roland and Jake. But with its release date already revealed, it is likely that its list of cast will also be unveiled soon.
Meanwhile, "The Dark Tower" will go head to head with Lionsgate's "Power Rangers" film which will premiere on the same day.
