‘Finding Dory’ Update: Ellen DeGeneres Says Fishes Are Not Pets; Ed O’Neill, Ty Burell, Kaitlyn Olson Joins Cast

At Disney's D23 Expo, Ellen DeGeneres said "Finding Dory" made her realize that fishes are not pets. Some of the cast members were also revealed in the event, including Kaitlyn Olson and "Modern Family" stars Ed O'Neill and Ty Burell. The upcoming animated sequel is scheduled to open in theaters June next year.

The popular talk show host, Ellen DeGeneres, has been working on "Finding Dory" with her friends and teammates for three years now. At Disney's D23 Expo last weekend, the host has finally shared a few details about the animated movie. "Dory is searching for her parents - she realizes [she] has parents - and comes across some characters who are somewhat helpful," DeGeneres said. For those who are not familiar, Dory is the blue tang fish with short-term memory loss who accompanied Marlin the clown fish in 2003's "Finding Nemo".

According to China Topix, the new Pixar movie made the 57-year-old host realize that fishes are not meant to be pets. "I think that fish should be in the ocean, their natural habitat. It's what this whole sequel is about," she explained. "It's about rehabilitation and putting them back in the ocean . . . And we have to protect our oceans." DeGeneres is hopeful that "Finding Dory" will influence its viewers to protect the environment.

The upcoming film will see the return of some characters from the original film, including Nemo, Marlin (Albert Brooks), Gill (William Dafoe), and Deb (Vicki Lewis). Apparently, Flo is still a part of the storyline. It will also introduce a few new ones like Bailey (a beluga whale), Hank (an angry octopus) and Destiny (a whale shark) that will be voiced by recently revealed cast members: Ty Burell, Ed O'Neill, and Kaitlin Olson respectively.

"Finding Dory" is scheduled to hit the big screen in 2D, 3D, and IMAX 3D on June 17, 2016.
