Disney unveiled the official logo for the "Dead Men Tell No Tales" at the D23 Expo. Walt Disney Studios President Sean Bailey officially confirmed Bloom's return as Will Turner in the fifth Pirates of the Caribbean.
Although early reports claimed Bloom was in talks to return, many fans were still surprised of this confirmation. Bloom had already revealed that he was in talks to possibly join the 2017 film when he was promoting "The Hobbit: Battle of the Five Armies" in 2014.
He also teased that he might not look like himself. "I'm of course Davy Jones now, so I'm down the bottom of the ocean," Bloom stated. "It might be kind of fun to do something where I'm rumbling round the bottom of the ocean, because I won't look anything like me. Get all gnarly." It is the first time Bloom will be appearing in a film from the franchise for quite a long time.
Johnny Depp also took the stage at the D23 Expo in California. Depp came out in character as Capt. Jack Sparrow to tease "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" at the Disney convention. During the panel, it was revealed that Bloom had been a part of the film, which wrapped shooting in Australia in July.
This could be a reunion for the Pirates of the Caribbean original cast but Keira Knightley is not coming back to reprise her role as Elizabeth. It is seemingly a personal choice as she has said: "My time has definitely passed, I loved it, it was an amazing experience but I won't be going back."
It isn't clear how Bloom's storyline will connect with Depp's, but it's likely that Jack Sparrow will need some help. As the synopsis teases: After Capt. Salazar (Javier Bardem) decides to kill every pirate, Jack Sparrow ( Depp) decides to go after "the legendary Trident of Poseidon, a powerful artifact that bestows upon its possessor total control over the seas.
"Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales" hits theaters on July 7, 2017.
