A new villain played by Javier Bardem leads a horde of ghost pirates while old characters Will Turner and Captain Barbosa will be reprised by Orlando Bloom and Geoffrey Rush respectively. Newcomer Kaya Scodelario is an astronomer in search of the same trident.

Kaya Scondelario recently confirmed rumors that the upcoming film will draw a lot of inspiration and attempt to gain the success of The Curse of the Black Pearl, which was released in 2003. Moreover, Orlando Bloom's Will Turner, will meet his son with Elizabeth Swann, Henry, played by Brenton Thwaites. However, this reunion will not include Elizabeth as Keira Knightley remain to be unattached to the film. Furthermore, new plot theories have also noted that with introduction of Scondelario's Carina Smyth and Thwaites' Henry, a romantic story arc could be explored for them
