Android 6.0 Marshmallow is officially coming up to smartphones and tablets beginning September 2015 and there is much more to the update other than supports on Android Pay, USB Type-C and fingerprint scanner. Marshmallow is also carrying patches to solve battery drain issue and mobile radio active bug.
While highly expected to take with the Marshmallow update new features and improvements for Android devices, Google is now looking into the age-old mobile radio active bug brought by the Android 5.0 Lollipop update. This bug cause massive battery drain across Android phones due to the radio modules of the devices.
Mobile radio active bug can be seen in apps which are in relatively using mobile data where a vast sum of mobile radio active time are checked. The system does not put the radio module of devices to back to sleep or recurrently launching it after an app utilizes it, forcing modules to wake up and drain battery massively.
This issue was first tracked in over 3,000 devices through Google's public assistance to Android-related issues. This was starred in the community which means Android developers have noticed the problem. However, it is important to take note that this does not necessarily mean they are releasing fix right away to all Android phones, only those can be qualified for the Marshmallow update.
In a statement by one of Google engineers, they truly noticed that Android device wakes up unnecessarily which is why Marshmallow has been pushed for an immediate release to solve this issue in the soonest time possible.
Currently, Android 6.0 Marshmallow is yet available for download as a final developer preview on Google Nexus 5, Nexus 6, Nexus 9 and Nexus Player.
Marshmallow will be introducing to public Doze, the new battery saver. Doze will manage battery performance of a device more efficiently and wisely. It will also feature a more convenient app permission, search bar on app drawer, manageable status bar, app linking, and personalized Chrome tabs.
