'Godzilla 2' may crossover with 'Pacific Rim 2' in a surprising twist. The monster film's screenwriter Max Borenstein calls his new project bigger and better than the first.

In an article by Movie Pilot, the epic worlds of monsters and giants will collide in a planned crossover between the newest 'Godzilla' reboot and the upcoming 'Pacific Rim' sequel. Both films are under Legendary Pictures with Gareth Edwards directing the former and Guillermo del Toro working on the latter.

Edwards talked about his latest project in a previous interview saying that he will be focusing more on the titular radioactive monster compared to 2014's release that hardly featured it at all. The first film in the reboot was criticized as poorly delivered, lackluster in script and character development, and in all irony did not focus primarily on Godzilla. It was celebrated, however, for Edwards' directing skills, Bryan Cranston's on-screen performance as well as its spectacular visual effects.

It was also reported that Edwards plans to delve deeper into the monster' origins and related mythology as well as introduce several other creatures. 'Pacific Rim 2' was also revealed to contain more references to the evil Kaiju world. Should a crossover happen, it would indeed be filled up to the brim with a massive selection of otherworldly monsters.

Guillermo del Torro seemed optimistic with the idea during an interview. He said, "So far with the sequel, what we're writing, what we're creating, is very different, so there are no plans. Hypothetically, I would love the f- out of it. I would love to see a jaeger and Godzilla duke it out. That would be too much for the human brain."

In another article by Comic Book Movie, screenwriter Max Borenstein returned to the drawing board to get working on a more action-packed sequel. He said, "I'm writing it now, and it's really going to be great. I don't want to go off book and tell you anything that I'm not allowed to tell you.

The response to the first film was really exciting, but now that that world is established, we can do bigger and even better things. We're really stoked." He added that he was excited to work with the visionary director Edwards once again. Borenstein was also credited for his work on the first reboot.

According to Coming Soon, Edwards is currently working on 'Star Wars Anthology: Rogue One' and until then 'Godzilla 2' will be waiting it out giving Borenstein more room to polish up his script draft. The latter is also currently on-board FOX's 'Minority Report' television series as executive producer. It was revealed at the 2014 San Diego Comic Con that the monsters Rodan, King Ghidora and Mothra would make appearances further down the franchise.

'Godzilla 2' is an upcoming science-fiction monster movie to be released on June 8, 2018 to serve as a follow-up to 2014's mainstream success. The first reboot earned a whopping $528 million against a $160 million budget according to Box Office Mojo making it the highest-grossing installment in the franchise to date. It starred Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Ken Watanabe, Elizabeth Olsen, Juliette Binoche and Bryan Cranston.
