Nations will reunite once again to save the world from alien invasion in Independence Day: Resurgence. Latest update suggest that the sequel is one step closer to hitting the big screen as filming has finally finished, with the cast and crew announcing the film's progress in their social media accounts.
It happened almost 2 decades ago when humans were able to defend themselves from the seemingly imminent danger. Since then, nations have contributed to making a sophisticated defence system against the extra terrestrial predators. But it does not stop there, as the aliens are back this time, with a more sophisticated technology.
According to Movie Web, one of the technology that humans will use will be the "Moon Tug", a space vehicle that director Roland Emmerich described as a 'workhorse' and will serve as Liam Hemsworth's main vehicle in the new movie.
It was previously reported that Hemsworth is taking the lead role that Will Smith vacated in the sequel. He is set to star in the upcoming sequel alongside Jeff Goldblum who is set to reprise his role as the computer expert and environmentalist, David Levinson.
The sequel is currently one step to finally hitting the big screen as principal photography has recently finished. According to Entertainment Weekly, director Emmerich celebrated the event by posting a photo of a double rainbow in Instagram.
"and that's a wrap on @IDResurgance. Thank you Albuquerque, New Mexico, you've been amazing. @NewMexicoFilm @Newmexico" Emmerich captioned the photo. Actress Joey King reposted the photo in her facebook account. Also, Herald Kloser posted "It's a wrap!!!" in his own account.
Independence Day: Resurgence roster also includes returnees Bill Pullman, Vivica A Fox, and Judd Hirsch, while Maika Monroe, Angelababy, Jessie Usher, and Sela Ward are also on board as new members of the cast. The upcoming film is a sequel to the hit 1996 movie, and is set to hit theaters in June 24, 2016
