‘Fantastic Four 2’ Update; Sequel Still Pushed Through, Pulled Out Of 2017 Release For ‘Deadpool 2’

20th Century Fox reportedly stays firm with its decision of pursuing "Fantastic Four 2". However, the studio is pulling the sequel out of its 2017 release to give way for "Deadpool 2".

Following the major flop Josh Trank's "Fantastic Four" reboot has made in the box office, many are expecting that 20th Century Fox is cancelling its planned sequel. However, it appears that the studio remains firm of pushing the sequel forward. Drew McWeeny of HitFlix claims that the follow-up film will still happen. "It may not make that original 2017 date," he says, "but they're definitely planning to make it." He also mentioned that the second one will be a reaction to the first movie which probably means more high adventure and sci-fi superheroics.

However, rumor has it that the studio will no longer prioritize "Fantastic Four 2". The Daily Superhero reports that Fox is pulling out the sequel from its original June 9, 2017 release to give way to "Deadpool 2". Though the Ryan Reynolds-starrer film still has not debuted in the big screen, it is already gaining tremendous amount of buzz since its presence at the 2015 San Diego Comic-Con. While the reboot of the four-member superhero team has disappointed the studio, the upcoming movie of the infamous Merc With A Mouth has been everything Fox could want.

Yibada reports that despite having a star-studded cast that includes Kate Mara ("The Martian"), Michael B. Jordan ("Creed"), Miles Teller ("Whiplash") and Jamie Bell ("Snowpiercer"), "Fantastic Four" only opened in second place, behind "Mission: Impossible -Rogue Nation" with an unsatisfying $26 million. Premiering last August 7, it has grossed another $34 million in other market areas, for a total of $60 million worldwide.

Meanwhile, Trank's "Fantastic Four" is still showing in some theaters while Tim Miller's "Deadpool" is scheduled to debut in the United States on February 12, 2016.
