Elsa and Anna Make Way To The New Disney Polynesian Princess Princess Moana

By

Looks like Disney is trying let go of Elsa and Anna for a while as they introduced yet another stunning and beautiful character of a Princess named Moana Waialiki. Her presence was announced at the studio's D2 Expo in Anaheim earlier this month.

Of Polynesian descent, Moana is a girl from Oceania whom her spirited character led her for adventure on implausible places. The forthcoming Polynesian princess is set to sail for a journey of self-discovery in the concluding part of 2016.

Moana is created by genius duo Ron Clements and John Musker who are behind the success of The Great Mouse Detective, Aladdin, The Little Mermaid and The Princess and the Frog. Moana is not the first colored princess that Disney has created. Mulan and Tiana of The Princess and the Frog have dazzled the Disney animation fans in 1998 and 2009 respectively. However, she is the first ever Polynesian princess to grace the big screen.

Possessing incredible navigation skill, Moana sets off for an expedition to the open sea after wondering about why sailors stopped traveling across the South Pacific Ocean 3,000 years ago. She will be accompanied by her adorable friends; her pet pig, Pug, and Hei Hei the rooster. In her quest to finding a legendary island in the region of Oceania, Princess Moana will meet a demigod whose name is Maui.

Maui who will be voiced by Dwayne Johnson, known as The Rock was born human but was raised by gods. An emotional Johnson spoke to the audience at the D23 Expo. "This is my heritage," Johnson said. "I am proudly half-Samoan and half-black." Together, Moana and Maui will battle with ancient creatures, including an incredible character made out of molten lava.

In an article of IDS News, the consistency of factual representation of a certain culture is very crucial. Looking at Pocahontas in 1995, a goal of a classic animated movie turned into a puddle of political and historical inaccuracy. Disney's intention for racially diverse princesses for children and adult alike to admire should be more reliable and stable.

The new Disney Princess Moana will set to sail on November 23, 2016. Are you excited for the new Disney Princess? Write your thoughts on a comment below.
