'Ice Age: Collision Course' has its running subtitle and new official release date revealed. It will feature the return of voice actors Queen Latifah, Ray Romano and John Leguizamo among others.
According to Screen Rant, the fifth and most likely concluding installment in the beloved animated franchise will hit theatres in the adjusted July 22, 2016 release date. It was previously scheduled for July 15 and was steered away from its direct competition 'Ghostbusters'. 20th Century Fox with subsidiary animation studio Blue Sky has also announced the subtitle as 'Collision Course' for the upcoming film.
The new movie in the franchise featuring the woolly mammoth Manny, saber tooth Diego, ground sloth Sid and their other animal companions is said to be the last film in the series, according to Movie News Guide. It will still focus on their adventures of survival in rough and unforgiving environments set in the Earth's ice age. It is still unclear whether the new plot will follow the events of its predecessor 'Continental Drift', which was released in 2012.
In the previous film, Scrat the squirrel's unending quest for an acorn puts the humorous gang in a precarious situation when continents split apart and they are separated from the rest of their traveling herd. Manny is parted from his mate Ellie and their daughter Peaches, taking Sid, Diego and Granny with him on a lonely iceberg. They soon encounter a vicious pirate Captain Grutt and his crew on the way back home.
Deadline reported that several of the actors voicing the main characters will be returning including John Leguizamo as Sid, Denis Leary as Diego, Ray Romano as Manny, Queen Latifah as Ellie, Wanda Sykes as Granny and Keke Palmer as Peaches. The new date for release set will put the film in competition with Warner Bro.'s 'King Arthur'.
'Ice Age: Collision Course' is an upcoming animated action-comedy directed by Mike Thurmeier and his co-director Galen T. Chu. It is the fifth film in the popular franchise produced by Blue Sky Studios of 20th Century Fox. All four previous films grossed a total of $2.8 billion worldwide, according to Box Office Mojo.
