Spider-Man is set to appear in the Marvel Cinematic Universe after the deal between Marvel and Sony was officially sealed for a reboot. New development about the upcoming movie suggests that it might be different than the previous iterations about the web-slinging hero.
As reported by Screen Crush, fans will not see Uncle Ben die for the third time as the writers John Francis Daley and Jonathan M. Goldstein revealed that the upcoming movie will not be an origin story."I think that everybody feels like, you know he got bit by a spider and you know Uncle Ben died. We probably don't need to revisit that." Goldstein said.
Daley also added that the film will feature a younger, high school student, Peter Parker, who also goes through the struggles of being a teenager, but with increased stakes because of his powers. Goldstein described the new Peter as "clumsy", a "geek", and a "bit of an outcast".
Although it has not been confirmed yet, IGN reported that Kraven the Hunter might become the villain in the upcoming movie. Sony might reportedly be eyeing on putting Kraven up against Spider-Man after Sony Vice President of Creative Affairs Karen Moy purchased a copy of Kraven's Last Hunt on Amazon. However, aside from Kraven, no other villains have been reported to be featured in the film.
The 19-year-old 'The Impossible' star Tom Holland is set to play as the web-slinging hero, while Marisa Tomei is reportedly in talks to play as Aunt May. Meanwhile, according to a report by Screen Rant, Andrew Garfield who previously played as the titular hero in The Amazing Spider-Man (2012), and The Amazing Spider-Man 2 (2014) revealed that he's excited to see Holland in the big screen.
"It feels lovely, especially because Tom Holland is a really, really great actor. He was in this movie The Impossible and he was just this incredibly powerful, sensitive, just wonderful young actor. And [he's] a dancer, so his body's the right [form]." Garfield said.
Garfield was set to don the Spider-Man costume for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 and 4, however, with Sony's deal with Marvel, the supposed sequels were dropped. Although Garfield did not reveal the reason for the cancellation of the projects he expressed his excitement in being the hero's fan again instead of bearing the weight of portraying the character.
The currently untitlted Spider-Man Reboot will be directed by Jon Watts. It is set to hit theaters in July 28, 2017.
