Alien 5 is in the works, however, it might take time before it finally hits theaters as it will only begin production after Ridley Scott's Prometheus 2. Meanwhile, Michael Biehn says he's certain he will be in the film and revealed Blomkamp's plan for the film.
Alien 5 is still happening but as reported by Yibada, 20th Century Fox is currently putting Blomkamp's film on hold in order to make way for Scott's sequel on his 2012 film, 'Prometheus' 2. According to the report, the timetable for the two films suggest that filming for Prometheus 2 will begin in 2016 and will be released in 2017 while Alien 5 will then begin filming in 2017 for its 2018 release.
Although it may seem like a long wait for fans of the franchise, it will reportedly give Blomkamp more time to finalize everything in the film's script, design, and add final touches to its storyline. Aside from that, the remaining time could help sort out the filming schedule for the cast.
Sigourney Weaver has been confirmed to return as Ellen Ripley. Along with Weaver, Blomkamp's concept art for the film suggest that she might be joined by Michael Biehn as Corporal Dwayne Hicks. Although he admitted that he hasn't received the script and the offer yet, Biehn said during The Sheffield Film and Comic Con that he's positive he'll be back in the franchise.
Also, Biehn revealed that he already had talks with Blomkamp, and as reported by Joblo, he shared that he's optimistic with what the director has planned for the film. He also revealed that the director is planning to ignore the events that transpired in Alien 3 and Alien Resurrection.
However, a tipster reportedly revealed to Bloody Disgusting that it is still early to speculate on whether the upcoming film will credit the events in the last two movies of the franchise. It did reveal, though, that Blomkamp is still working on the script since what was previously made was just the outline.
The upcoming Alien film which is currently being referred to as Alien 5 is set to be directed and written by Neill Blomkamp. It will be produced by Blomkamp, Scott, and David Giler. No release date has been announced yet but more details about the upcoming film are expected to be released in the coming months.
