Terminator Genisys 2 Rumors: Sequel likely after 1st film hits $400 million mark worldwide; Arnold Schwarzenneger to reprise lead role?

By

Despite its box office underperformance domestically, Terminator Genisys 2 might be pushed through given its success overseas, especially in China. The film also recently passed the $400 million dollar mark worldwide even without hitting $100 million domestically.

The Arnold Schwarzenneger lead film crossed the $400 million mark, as reported by Forbes. After making $44 million during the Independence Day weekend, the film ended its theatrical US release with an $89.5 million, a bit far from its $155 million budget.

However, the film was saved by its international supporters especially from China where, according to Geek, has grossed $27.4 million during its first day of release. Its first day of showing has made it the fourth highest grossing opening day earner after Transformers: Age of Extiction which grossed $30 million, Avengers: Age of Ultron which earned $33 million, and the recently released Furious 7 which made $63 million on premiere.

Aside from that, the movie is also one of the few features created that made it past $400 million mark without even hitting $100 million, domestically. Among these are the movies ,The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Empire, The Chronicles of Narnia: The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and Pacific Rim.

Worldwide, the movie already made it past the $320 million, therefore, many believe that a sequel, which was previously thought to be dropped given the movie's poor reception and negative criticisms domestically, will be pursued.

Terminator Genisys was reportedly created to start a new series of films and a television series. As stated in previous report, it stars Arnold Schwarzenneger as The Guardian or Terminator, along with Emilia Clarke, Jason Clarke, Jai Courtney, J.K. Simmons, and Matt Smith.

Although it has not been confirmed yet and no details have been revealed regarding the plot for Terminator Genisys 2, official announcements are expected to be made when and if production pushes through.
