In a report by The Master Herald, Cruise, with Mission Impossible 6 on one hand, "has also been working hard on 'Top Gun 2' after much anticipation for the new film." Reports on Top Gun 2 initially came around in 2010, with Oscar-winning screenwriter Christopher McQuarrie pushing for the idea, and offers to renowned Hollywood producer Jerry Bruckheimer and director Tony Scott being made. However, Scott's untimely death in 2012 halted the progress of this project.
