New reports are claiming that "Thor: Ragnarok" and "Captain Marvel" may commence its production in Australia. This is reportedly a result of the studio's "great experience" in the country while filming "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tell No Tales" earlier this year, as well as its cost-cutting measure in scouting locations.
Following the conclusion of "Captain America: Civil War's" production in Germany, Disney is now slated to take its pending projects ahead. The studio is already scouting for possible filming locations of "Thor: Ragnarok" and it looks like its lead actor, Chris Hemsworth, may get a short commute in this one. Yahoo Movies reports that the Disney is planning to commence the production of the third installment in Australia. But that's not all; its first female superhero project "Captain Marvel" may also start shooting in the same country.
According to Comic Book, the decision comes after "Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man Tells No Tales" wrapped filming on the Gold Coast this month. "The big bosses were very pleased throughout the year it took to shoot out here and now they're looking at bringing out one of the Marvel films," said one of Pirates' technical specialists, who remained anonymous. Sources suggest that this could also be a cost-cutting measure of the studio in scouting different locations for the upcoming movie. "They were also able to work across a lot of different locations which has saved them scouting for the Marvel movie."
While "Captain Marvel" will not start shooting soon, "Thor 3" is reportedly already attached to do its principal photography in Queensland March next year. According to Yibada, Hemsworth and Tom Hiddelston will reprise their roles of the Asgardian God and Loki in the third installment of the franchise. As for the female-led movie, there is no actress on board yet to play the titular role but MMA Champion Ronda Rousey is rumored to be in talks for the part.
If the reports are to be believed, then it will not only help the studios' financial concerns, but may also contribute to the movies' overall impact. Since most of the scenes would presumably take place away from Earth, it would be fascinating to see Australia's colorful locales used as other worlds in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
"Thor: Ragnarok" and "Captain Marvel" will premiere on November 3, 2017 and November 3, 2018 respectively. "Pirates 5" on the other hand is slated to open in cinemas on July 7, 2017.
