Focus Features's "The Danish Girl" proudly introduces the two main characters in the movie, Eddie Redmayne as Einar Wegener/Lili Elbe and Alicia Vikander as Gerda Wegener, Einar's wife. Under the direction of an award-winning director, Tom Hooper, his forthcoming movie has captivated millions of audiences from all over the world as its first movie trailer was released on Tuesday.
The movie trailer started with the narration of Eddie Redmayne's character sharing his thoughts to his wife, talking about Lili Elbe and telling about dreaming her dreams. Redmayne's character revolves around two different personas - a female and a male.
"That fact is... I believe that I am a woman," Einar tells his wife in the teaser. "And I believe you too," she says supportively.
According to a report in Entertainment Weekly, the story was a true to life story of, Lili Elbe, one of the first people who have undergone sex reassignment surgery.
"When I first read the script, I wept three times," Hooper (Les Miserables) said in Entertainment Weekly. "It connected to me in similar ways to The King's Speech, where a man is locked in his body by a stammer and he's helped by a tender friendship. With Lili, I was moved by the power of love as an agent of transformation, even when the world was against it."
With the currently hot issues about transgender and LGBT, according to a report on Variety, the film became the limelight and one of the most anticipated movies in the Hollywood after Caitlyn Jenner's public transformation admission and the legalization of same-sex marriage in the US.
As the Best Actor Oscar awardee, Redmayne is highly believed to have prepared for his new role as a transgender in the film. On the other hand, an article posted on Wired teased Vikander to be in her "full Academy Award mode" [as they called it] with a convincing character and emotions.
The story was based on a historical novel written by David Ebershoff about a man born in 1882 who transfigured to a woman in the 1920s with his wife's support.
"This is not my body, I have to let it go," Einar later says before undergoing a transgender surgery.
On November 27, the long wait will end as "The Danish Girl" movie smashes up.
