Universal Pictures offers a new installment movie for "Bourne" series featuring Matt Damon for his most played role as Jason Bourne. Matt Damon was confirmed to claim his title back as the lead character from the first three movies.
Matt Damon was first seen as Jason Bourne in the first movie, "Bourne Identity" directed by Doug Liman in 2002. Then the "Bourne Supremacy" in 2004 and the "Bourne Ultimatum" in 2007 under the direction of Paul Greengrass became a hit. Three years after, the third movie became his last hit as Jason Bourne since the "Bourne Legacy" has franchised a new star in the character of Jeremy Renner.
After eight years of rest from the film, Matt Damon together with one of the very talented directors, Paul Greengrass is officially coming back for the Bourne 5.
During an interview with BuzzFeed, Damon talked about the lag time between films. It was also confirmed that the movie actor together with the movie director reconsidered the idea of making a new Bourne movie not until Edward Snowden revealed that the new story has been planned all along.
"Without giving too much of it away, it's Bourne through an austerity-riddled Europe and in a post-Snowden world," Damon said. "It seems like enough has changed, you know? There are all these kinds of arguments about spying and civil liberties and the nature of democracy."
Alongside the revelation, The Hollywood Reporter disclosed the new casts and characters who will be contributing a role for the development of the new project. Bourne 5 will be having Vincent Cassel, a French actor known as Thomas Leroy in the Black Swan movie. Cassel will hold the role of a mysterious man who will soon become one of Bourne's enemies.
The Variety mentioned that no one still knows about the plot details of the upcoming movie. Vincent Cassel will be joining Tommy Lee Jones and Alicia Vikander aside from Matt Damon. In addition, three Bourne villain legends are also expected to come back for the Bourne 5 namely Clive Owen, Karl Urban and Edgar Ramirez.
"We're starting in Greece, you know, the beginning of democracy," Damon said on BuzzFeed - also a nod to the country's current financial crisis that is plaguing the greater European economy. "And the movie ends in Las Vegas, the most grotesque incarnation of...." Damon trailed off with a laugh.
The production for the latest project will start this year and the movie will be out on July 29, 2016.
