Motorola, being one of the topnotch brands to announce the final software version of Android Lollipop for its devices, is coming near to the much-awaited upgrade. Before the Marshmallow update hits lucky devices by late September, Motorola is reported releasing the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop with improvements, a few minor tweaks and bug fixes.
Reported last month to update a total of 17 devices in its line, Motorola will include updates to the first and second generations of Moto G with security patches in support to Stagefright fix. Last August 10, the Lenovo-owned tech firm already released the official solution to this widespread Android vulnerability. Google developers admitted last month that 95 percent of Android-run devices are affected by Stagefright which made it the most epidemic bug that in its history.
Alongside bug fixes, the Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will also come with improvements in features plus add-ons. The update will bring a better Material Design with fluid animations and more themes and options. It also features a cleaner minimalist user interface.
The device switch allows a device to switch contents like apps, settings, etc. as well as location to another device using the near-field communication (NFC). Device sync meanwhile enables a smartphone to view its content to another devices like TV, car, and watches. Listen and watch on one device and continue to another where content is left off.
While the Android 6.0 Marshmallow has not yet come, the final Lollipop update is expected to hit the said devices as Marshmallow comes out by late September. Other Motorola devices expected to bring the Lollipop update are Moto G 2014, Moto G 2013, Moto X 2014, Moto X 2013, Moto Maxx/Turbo, DROID Turbo, DROID Ultra, DROID Maxx, and DROID Mini. Meanwhile, soon to be released Moto X Style and Moto X Play are expected to run on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop out of the box.
For those who cannot wait for the official Lollipop update from carriers and/or Motorola, a custom ROM based on 5.1.1 Lollipop is also available for download. The CyanogenMod 12.1 ROM is available here.
