Android 5.1.1 Lollipop's official over-the-air update is indeed coming to Sony Xperia Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z and variants very soon as the Japanese tech firm announced on its blog the release of the update's version of 5.1.1. The final Lollipop update brings with it new features and changes and bug fixes, including a security patch to Stagefright threat.
While Sony has just released a flash tool for Android 5.1.1 Lollipop on its blog, many are still hopeful that the official over-the-air update will roll out to its devices. Finally though because the update is imminent to Xperia handsets, including Z2, Z2 Tablet, Z1, Z1 Compact, Z, Z Ultra, among others.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop will bring in improvements in Material Design which makes the user interface and animations more fluid and lively through new themes and colors. A long-term solution to the infamous Stagefright vulnerability has also been released with the update.
Aside from the Stagefright solution, Lollipop also strengthens privacy of the device following series of threats in Android software. Anti-malware and Smart Lock helps secure information when sharing it to trusted devices.
Other improvements include the device switch and sync device. Device switch allows switching content like apps, wallpaper and screen layout to another device, even take notes of the settings, Wi-Fi, and location. Sync device enables users to sync content to TV, watches, cars and other devices. Listen and watch also from one device and continue to another where one left off through a Google account.
Meanwhile, a Youtube video released last month shows additional features in UI, controls and customization for Xperia devices. Icon size can be changed at the Home Screen settings, while Wi-Fi and Bluetooth toggles on Quick Settings now include connectivity options without going to the Settings menu.
Alarm is now added on the sound settings when pressing the volume rockers, and volume levels of different sound output are now available using the volume rockers.
