, there will be a "Pikmin 4"; but there is no exact date for its release yet. Nintendo's Shigeru Miyamoto said that the fourth installment in the series is "actually close to completion." This might be a relief as "Pikman 3" came out 9 years after the sequel.
Although there will really be a "Pikmin 4" coming soon, Nintendo said that that's what it can only confirm at that point. "We can confirm that 'Pikmin 4' is in development but that is all we can confirm at present," according to a statement sent to Eurogamer by Nintendo.
"Pikmin 3", the last title in the garden strategy franchise, was released for Wii U in 2013. Miyamoto likewise did not divulge which platform would "Pikmin 4" would land on. Nintendo is currently developing a new console, "mysteriously" called NX. But again, no detail is to be disclosed yet until next year.
IGN, on the other hand, said that "Pikmin 4" would likely be in Wii U rather than NX, as the game is close to being done. A lot of speculations had spread ever since the console's first reveal, including a rumor that the NX is Android-powered (which Nintendo later on disproved); and that the new "Legend of Zelda" will be launchetd on both NX and Wii U simultaneously.
This is indeed exciting news as it took so long for the company to produce the third title, according to Kotaku. The report added that it was hoping that the game would come out to 3DS instead. There was never a handheld "Pikmin" title yet; and this might be the right time.
In "Pikmin", players should have the skills of both time management and strategy. Gamers have to lead an army of intelligent multi-colored plant-animal creatures and help them survive on a mysterious planet (obviously suggested as Earth). The first "Pikmin" offered gamers to race against time to fix their spaceship. The sequel followed the first title's precept and added procedurally-generated dungeons and new "Pikmin" species. The gameplay of the third installment is somewhat similar with the first one, although with modern visuals, of course.
Although the game is close to completion, Nintendo is still mum about its release date and whether it will be for Wii U or NX consoles. "Pikmin 4" is somehow in the same predicament where "Legend of Zelda Wii U" is in right now. Both are Nintendo titles that are waiting launch dates and are being reputed to come out to NX. Until Nintendo issues out another press release, players just have to hold on to Miyamoto's words 'til then.
