After serving 4 years in prison for the murder case of Meredith Kercher, Amanda Knox and her boyfriend, Raffaele Sollecito, have been acquitted by Italy's highest court.
Recently, a panel of judges found that the state's case against the couple lacked evidence to prove their accusations. They also cited that the case lacked biological traces in connection to the crime. According to The Guardian, it is a common practice in Italy that once the verdict is in, the details involved in the court decision can already be released. The issue has been a media focus all-over the world, pressuring the investigators to rush the case.
Knox was the victim's roommate back in 2007, making her the prime suspect of the case. The victim was found with more than 40 stab wounds in her body. NBC New notes that the victim was insisted to be part of a sex game between the accused couple which eventually led to a crime. Due to the absence of any biological evidence from Knox or Sollecito that would put them in the crime scene, they should have already been excluded in the participation of the crime committed.
Last Monday, Knox expressed how thankful she is for achieving liberty after serving years in prison caused by a crime she didn't commit. Sollecito's attorneys are currently working on a claim for wrongful imprisonment, saying he was a victim of injustice.
As reported by Yahoo News, the high court concluded that some of the circumstances of the crime might never be known anymore. Setting up another trial would already be useless, putting the two on another legal rollercoaster.
The case has been running back and forth for years already.Though many believe the opposite, it is clear to the supporters of Knox that she is only a victim of wrongful imprisonment.
