Search engine giant, Google, has rolled out a new Android security update for the whole Nexus smartphone lineup. These Nexus smartphones include LG Nexus 4, LG Nexus 5, Motorola Nexus 6, Asus Nexus 7, and HTC Nexus 9.
As announced recently, Google started this update to prevent bugs like Stagefright, which took the Android community by storm. In addition, this initiative will be offered by Google on a monthly basis. Google has confirmed that it will notify all Android manufacturers about the security issues every month in a security bulletin. The Android security team takes full responsibility for managing security vulnerabilities, like that of Stagefright bug, discovered in the Android platform.
According to a report from T-Mobile, Google releases updates with the build number LMY48M except for Motorola Nexus 6, which receives update with build number LTZ28K. However, this security update does not have any new features. Instead, it has various bug fixes, tweaks, and some security patches for Android.
Users won't take long to install or download this over-the-air (OTA) update for it clocks in fewer than 20MB size for all the abovementioned smartphones, with an exception for the Nexus 6, which has 30MB. Although most data plans will be able cope with such small update, users have to download it over a strong Internet connection or WiFi.
The security-focused update is released per batch, so there is nothing to worry if it does not reach some of user's Nexus devices yet. The update will gradually be available over cellular at a later date.
Even so, big changes are not to be expected in this update. Only minor security and bug fixes are included in it. The security OTA update is designed to tweak various elements, where bugs are squashed and the Android operating system's security is patched. However, there might be a huge update coming up any time soon, so better watch out for it.
