According to reports on Sunday, Google is close to purchasing Waze for US$1.3 billion. An Israeli newspaper stated that the possible deal will trump rival offers for the mapping start-up.
Globes, a financial newspaper, did not cite sources or provide additional information about said deal on their website.
A source told Reuters last month that the Internet giant was in discussion to acquire Waze. A second Israeli newspaper stated that Facebook was also willing to pay more than US$1 billion for the said company.
Facebook is looking deeper into mobile technology as it attempts expansion in its user base.
Waze has forty seven million members. It is mobile-oriented navigation and crowd-sourced device designed for drivers who rely on details to populate maps given by members.
Mapping services have become among the top five commonly used applications for smartphones.
Waze officials were not available to give statements regarding said acquisition deal.
