Xiaomi will allegedly release two variants of its next high-end budget smartphone, the Mi 4C, next week. In terms of performance and under the hood specs, Xiaomi Mi 4C brings more bang-for-the-buck than the Oppo R5s.
The Mi 4C targets price-sensitive customers with its premium specs offered in an affordable price. According to The International Business Times, the Xiaomi Mi 4C handset will have two variations based on RAM and memory capacity. The base variant will sport a 2GB RAM and 16 GB memory combo for $229. The more costly variant will have 3GB RAM and 32 GB internal storage and is expected to be $50 to $75 more expensive than its low budget counterpart.
The Christian Post released a report about two benchmark results - one device is certified by TENAA and believed to be the Mi 4C. The other one is benchmarked by AnTuTu and has similar specs rumored to the Mi 4C.
In a comprehensive review by Whatech, the Xiaomi Mi 4C was compared with the Oppo R5s, both of which are inexpensive octa-core phones. The Oppo R5s gains the upper hand in terms of physical structure with its ultra slim 4.85 mm body reminiscent of R5, the world's thinnest smartphone.
However, Mi 4C offers more under the hood with its Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor, Adreno 418, and 2GB RAM. It also runs Android 5.1.1 Lollipop and the latest MIUI 7. With these internal specs, the Mi 4C is considered to be a powerful device capable of running the latest games and apps. Compared to the Oppo R5s, Xiaomi Mi 4C has a better and faster chipset.
The only weakness of Mi 4C is its limited storage and the fact that it does not have a microSD slot. However, compared with the R5s which runs the outdated Color 2.0 OS and Android KitKat 4.4.4, the Xiaomi Mi 4c brings more value for money. The device also has a longer battery life compared to the R5s.
According to press releases, only 100,000 units of each Xiaomi Mi 4C variant will be sold. Many speculate that this is to give way for Redmi Note 2 Sales to finish its market cycle. There are reports saying that the Mi 4C will hit the market on September 22 or 24.
