Major changes are in-store for Castle and Co. when the ABC series hits our small screens this fall.
When we last checked-in on Castle, a season finale-ish kind of episode was served to us by ex-showrunner David Amann. The season 7 finale entitled “Hollander’s Woods” showed us Castle finally deciding to become a writer, Beckett being offered to run for the New York State Senate, and the rest of the characters looking forward to a bright future ahead.
Heading into its eighth season, the long-running crime drama will delve into another mythology. According to an episode description from The Futon Critic, a mysterious phone call will trigger an “explosive chain of events” as Castle and Beckett adjust to Beckett’s new role as captain of the 12th precinct.
Series star Stana Katic offered a brief tease about season 8 in a report from Deadline and explained how excited she is about what new showrunners Alexi and Terence have set up. She said, “Part of the exciting thing about this season is the way Alexi and Terence have envisioned the cosmic version of why the two characters (Castle and Beckett) have come together, how did these roads combine. It delves into the mythology of Rick’s disappearance and memory loss as well as into what inspired Beckett to become a cop in the first place.”
As per TV Line, the latest season will also introduce Hayley, a new security specialist who will figure prominently into Rick’s storyline. The new series regular role will be played by The Neighbors alum Toks Olagundoye.
Elsewhere, a new baby is on the way for Ryan and Esposito. Executive producers Alexi Hawley and Terence Paul Winter has previewed this arc via TV Guide. Both of them enthused, “We have some exciting news for the Ryan family: They're expecting another kid. Ultimately, that's going to make Ryan even more paranoid and more excited about trying to make more money. When he sees Beckett rising up in the ranks, the boys realize it's time for them to start looking at their futures, which is going to create some tension and conflict between them.“
