A slew of rumors on the cancellation of The Last of Us 2 already made the rounds online when Uncharted game developer Naughty Dog has recently dropped an indirect confirmation that the sequel is in the works.
PlayStation Lifestyle reports that during the recently held live-stream event for Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection, Naughty Dog might just have indirectly confirmed The Last of Us 2 being in the works.
Writer Josh Scherr, Lead Animator Eric Baldwin, and Community strategist Eric Monacelli were all at the event talking about Uncharted including previous projects such as The Last of Us. Scherr reached a point when he tackled about facial animation in the games and revealed how Monacelli took a hand in creating the ones in the "first The Last of Us."
Scherr was quoted saying, "All the facial animation in the Uncharted series was led up by Eric, here... and the first The Last of Us. Uh, did I say the first The Last of Us?" After making this statement , Scherr appeared to be a little confused which made his two colleagues to laugh.
Fans can recall that this is not just the only time that the sequel has been hinted to be under way when voice actor Nolan North who is reportedly working on some projects with Warner Bros.had revealed earlier in the year that Naughty Dog is indeed working on the new entry to the game series.
Troy Baker, on the other hand, said that he knew nothing about the making of the game during the panel session at Indy PopCon 2015.
"I don't know if we're gonna do another one or not. If we do, then I trust Neil [Druckman, creative director] and Bruce [Straley, game director] and everyone at Naughty Dog to tell a story that needs to be told," Baker explained as cited in a Euro Gamer report.
What Baker said is apparently the opposite to Nolan's at a Metrocon 2015 panel session when he was asked by a fan if he is working on other projects with Naughty Dog.
Naughty Dog, on the other hand, neither confirmed nor denied Nolan's statement and it was a year ago when the developer said at a Reddit AMA that the possibility for a follow-up to the first title was 50/50.
The cancellation rumor of The Last of Us 2 swirled even more online when Neil Druckman was noted to have expressed interest for Half-Life 3 license on Twitter just recently. His tweet post reads, "Look, Valve, all I'm saying is you give us the Half Life license and we'll take care of the rest."
It is clearer now, however, that The Last of Us 2 is not getting close to being canned based on what could be a slip of tongue from Naughty Dog and fans would be able to see more of father-daughter adventure for Joel and Ellie.
