Android M Release Date: Moto X Play, Moto X Pure Edition, Moto X 2016 Will Get Android 6.0 Marshmallow Update

By

Google might be releasing the Android 6.0 Marshmallow download soon for the Moto X Play, Moto X Pure Edition and the much-anticipated Moto X 2016.

Motorola, which was formerly owned by Google, has a reputation of releasing Android updates to their phone models on time. The same is expected of the now Lenovo-owned tech company when Google launches the much-awaited Android M to the public this year.

Out of the box, the Moto X Play and Moto X Pure Edition runs on Android 5.1.1 Lollipop version. The new and upcoming Moto X 2016 model is slated for a release next year on the third quarter and is already expected to run Android M or a much newer version at that time, according to Neuro Gadget.

The Moto X Pure Edition can now be bought from the official website of Motorola. It can be purchased without a contract for a decent $400. What does the Moto X Pure Edition have in store?

Qualcomm's hexa-core Snapdragon 808 processor will be the brains of the phone, coupled with 3 GBs of RAM. For the internal storage, it will have 64GB. The main camera is also impressive as it has 21 megapixels. Gospel Herald reported that it will have a rather large 5.7-inch QHD display.

Motorola also has the cheaper, yet still powerful, Moto X Play with a Snapdragon 615 chipset and 2 GB RAM. It will still have the 21 MP main camera but a smaller 5.5-inch FHD screen. It will, however, come with a longer-lasting battery of 3,630mAh, while the Moto X Pure Edition only has 3,000mAh.

There is still no actual release date released by the search engine giant. However, the Android M software developer kit (SDK) was already launched a couple of months ago, which means that the public release might not be too far off.

Latin Post reported that the actual launch will be in this fall. However, all viable phones will not be able to get the Android M download at the same time. It will depend on the carrier and OEMs on when they will roll out the Android 6.0 Marshmallow update.

Google will also be launching a new line of Nexus devices in the following weeks. Motorola has no news on when they will be actually rolling out the Android M update for their newer phone models.
