"Scandal" season 5 will tackle the reconciliation of Olivia Pope and Fitzgerald Grant. As the hot political drama continues to reinvent itself, the on-and-off relationship of Liv and Fitz has been the ongoing storyline over the past four years. Now that the writers have allowed the duo to hop back in each other's arms, the question remains - will it span in the long run?
From what we learned via ABC, “Olivia and Fitz are back together again and enjoying every scandalous moment together” in the Sept. 24th season opener titled “Heavy is the Head”.
Although this arc may sound exciting for Liv/Fitz shippers, it’s only a matter of time before the events from season 4’s finale will blow up. According to a recap from Entertainment Weekly, the final hour of season 4 shows Liv had his power-tripping father arrested as Eli Pope and not Command.
In season 5, Rowan is still out there and for as long as he’s still alive, Olivia will not rest. Viewers of the Shonda Rhimes-produced drama may even be treated with some canoodling scenes from Liv and Fitz but their reunion at this point is much less just a fantasy. Expectedly, bigger threats are yet to unravel for the couple in the latest run.
In the White House, the latest season will open with the absence of Mellie Grant. Last May, the FLOTUS was kicked out by Fitz after providing Rowan the list of the grand jury for the B613 case. This arc may present itself as a little hope, as this suggests that Liv could potentially snag her position as the First Lady.
In a report from TV Line, creator Shonda Rhimes addressed this intriguing theory. “We don't comment on future storylines”, the creator said adding that the "concept is intriguing”.
Scandal season 5 bows on Thursday, Sept. 24 on ABC.
