Alien 5 is still a go as director Neill Blomkamp recently denied previous claims about the film being put on hold for Prometheus 2. However, it is still likely for the Prometheus sequel to be released first in theaters rather than Blomkamp's alien film.
Reports previously made their rounds indicating that Blomkamp's Alien 5 has been put on hold. However, as reported by Scified, Blomkamp was asked by one of his fans about the alleged delay, and without giving further details, the director cleared out the issue in his Twitter account by saying that the rumor is "negative".
Details about the upcoming film are presently scarce, although, a report by Ecumenical News cited that it was previously confirmed Sigourney Weaver and Michael Biehn are set to return in the franchise to reprise their roles as Ellen Ripley and Cpl. Dwayne Hicks, respectively. The upcoming film will reportedly take place after Scott's Prometheus, with its timeline closer to the Aliens and Aliens 3 films.
Blomkamp himself also previously expressed his enthusiasm in creating the film, saying that it would be such a shame for him not to do the sequel. "Alien is the one thing that's just... I actually think it's the first science-fiction film I ever saw. And it's my first memory of film. So it's just emblazoned into my head in a way that... it would be a shame for me to not do it for myself. Even if it doesn't live up to want people want, for my own self I need to at least try.", Blomkamp said.
However, as reported by Movie Pilot, Blomkamp's Alien sequel might be released after Scott's Prometheus 2 given that Scott's project is set to begin production on early next year while the Alien sequel is still in its pre-production stage.
No release date has been revealed yet for Blomkamp's Alien 5, however, Fox is eyeing for 2017. More details are expected to be revealed as production makes progress in the coming months.
