Moana Film Updates: Disney's newest multi-cultural princess in theatres next year; Dwayne Johnson to sing for his role as demigod Maui

The first Disney Polynesian princess is set to arrive in the upcoming film, Moana and Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson has also been confirmed to take part in the film to play as a demigod. Johnson is also expected to share his singing voice to the world as part of his role.

Disney revealed during the D23 Expo in Anaheim, California the first look at their latest addition to the roster of their princesses in the latest film, Moana. As reported by Daily Mail, Moana's look was revealed showing her wearing traditional clothing, and an oar in her right hand. She is a seafaring enthusiast, which is a trait that runs in her family, and in the upcoming film, she is set to embark on an adventure with a mission to find a mythical island in Oceania.

According to CNN, a couple of allies and friends will accompany her strong and independent spirit in her upcoming adventure. In the film, she will encounter a demigod named Maui, who will be voiced by Johnson, as well as her cute friends specifically a pig named Pua, and a rooster named Hei Hei.

NBC News also reported that as part of his character, Johnson is expected to sing in the upcoming film. During the Expo, Johnson revealed how proud he is to be half-black and half-Samoan. "When I first got in this business 15 years ago - I've been a lucky guy and had a pretty good career over the years - I had a goal, and the goal was to be in the Disney family. Yes.", he said.

The film's musical team for Moana, will be comprised of South Pacific musician Opetaia Foa'i with composer Mark Mancina and Lin-Manuel Miranda. Its screenplay will be written by Taika Waititi and will be directed by Ron Clements and John Musker whose previous works include The Little Mermaid and The Princess and The Frog. Moana is expected to hit theaters in November 23, 2016.
