Caitlyn Jenner recently filed a petition to have her name and gender legally changed. The 65-year-old transgender has been seeking legal advice to help her in the legal procedure as certain requirements proving her gender are needed. Despite wanting to officially change her gender and name as soon as possible, Caitlyn is taking small steps forward to ensure her privacy and safety is guaranteed first.
According to a report from E Online, Caitlyn Jenner is 100% ready to have her name and gender legally changed. The "I Am Cait" star wants her transition to be legally recognized; this being so, Caitlyn is asking the court to grant and produce her with a new birth certificate stating her name as Caitlyn Marie Jenner, and her gender as female.
After the E! star recently had a name changing-ceremony on the finale episode of her documentary-reality show, Caitlyn now wants to take the next step, and have her identity officially changed. However, not everything is as simple as one might imagine. Apparently, there are certain requirements needed as proof to have the changes made, and Caitlyn isn't entirely sure about releasing such personal information.
In a report from Entertainment Tonight, in order for the court to accept the transition, she must produce documented declaration of the gender change, which includes clinically approved treatments. After hearing of the said requirements, the former Olympic champion filed a motion to seal portions of the petition in order to protect her privacy, as well as a request for a private hearing.
According to Jenner's lawyer, the case is very sensitive what with Caitlyn being in the public eye, and being a transgender. The lawyer then went on explaining how publicizing the name and gender change process allows Caitlyn to be exposed to potential discrimination, harassment, and violence due to the simple fact she's a transgender.
In another report from TMZ, Caitlyn is terrified of having to produce personal and private information to the court because of physical threats. According to sources close to the Jenner star, Caitlyn has already received numerous physical threats because of her transformation. Apparently the 65-year-old celebrity isn't keen on passing on medical history information or personal documents connected to her transformation, as it may escalate.
While the petition for her name and gender changeis still in the process, Caitlyn Jenner is anxiously waiting to hear back whether a private hearing will be allowed, and if her filed motion will be granted. Despite the hardships Caitlyn has gone through over the last few months, she's 100% ready and sure her next step of being Caitlyn legally is the next best thing to do.
