Following the Android 5.1 Lollipop rollout to HTC One M9 late August, the smartphone brand is reportedly bringing the final Lollipop update too to the device through an over-the-air release soon. Android 5.1.1 Lollipop software version is slated to come shortly after Android 6.0 Marshmallow debuts to select phones.
HTC One M9, both unlocked versions and under carrier, is coming near to Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update as reported. Although HTC executive Mo Versi revealed last month that Sense 6.0 will come with Marshmallow, for some Android fans this does automatically mean the Taiwanese brand is jumping to Android 6.0 Marshmallow.
Earlier in August, Versi responded in a tweet to a querying fan when its own user interface Sense 6.0 be coming to HTC One phones. He answered when Android 6.0 Marshmallow is released to the phone. Practically, this answer does not directly mean HTC is moving straight to Marshmallow. There is no closure to reports yet.
Current software status of HTC One M9 are as follows:
Mobile Carrier | Software Version |
Android 5.1 | |
Android 5.1 | |
Android 5.0.2 | |
Verizon | Android 5.1 |
Meanwhile, One M8 and One M7 handsets are also expected to be receiving the Lollipop update too. Most One M8 and One M7 units are currently running on Android 5.0 Lollipop software.
Android 5.1.1 Lollipop update is expected to bring in improvements in user interface, device sharing and syncing, and security patches, among others.
- Material Design. The new Lollipop update brings in more fluid animations along with improved apps and personalization options like colors, widgets and themes.
- More notification controls. Users can now adjust settings to sift people and notifications go get through. Users can also directly respond to notifications from lock screen.
- Device sharing. Create multiple user accounts to allow friends to access device to prevent them from accessing owner's private files. With Android Smart Lock, secure device by pairing it with trusted device like any wearable or even car.
- Device syncing. Apps, song, photos and even recent searches from one Android device can be accessed fully across all other Android devices.
