S Health and Moto Body fitness app updates extend support for Android phones; now on Play Store

Samsung and Motorola now extend support for Android phones in their fitness apps, S Health and Moto Body. Both apps can be downloaded on Google Play Store.

The S Health app gets an update that allows it to function as a fitness coach on all Samsung phones since Galaxy S3 and on all non-Samsung Android phones. The update requires the phones to run Android 4.4 or higher. Greenbot reported that S Health is also compatible with Tizen-powered, sensor-equipped Gear S2 smart watch. S Health can also sync health data with third-party devices.

Launched in April, S Health is an app that monitors activity and saves health data for a healthier lifestyle. It was once limited to Samsung's line of Galaxy handsets. Through the app, users can input their daily food and beverage intake, sleep and wake-up times, blood pressure, and weight measurement. It can analyze sleep patterns based on gathered information.

According to Bidness Etc, S Health's features can be maximized if the smartphone has sensors required for the app to gather data like a heart rate monitor. Using specific built-in sensors in the phone, S Health can monitor heart rate, blood oxygen, and stress level. It can even count the number of steps taken using the smartphone's accelerometer sensor.

Rivalling the S Health in the fitness app category is Motorola's Moto Body. In a report by Engadget, the Moto Body app update now features Android phone support. It allows fitness-tracking on the phone, no longer confined to the limited screen of the Moto 360 smart watch. Moto Body requires the phone running Android 4.3 and up.

Moto Body offers similar features to that of S Health. Both apps help users achieve and maintain their desired fitness level. Both are capable of tracking user progress and recording health data. These fitness apps can help a person get off the couch and be less lethargic by being more physically active.

The Moto Body and S Health apps are now available to all Android phones, giving people more opportunities to have a healthier, more dynamic lifestyle. Both apps have hit Google Play Store, though as of the moment, it seems that Moto Body is enjoying a higher average rating with 4-star reviews than S Health with its 3-stars.
