Denzel Washington is set to return as the vigilante in The Equalizer 2 which is expected to be released in 2017. Although director Antoine Fuqua's involvement has not been officially confirmed yet, he expressed his keenness to return and helm the next film.
Washington's Robert McCall is set to return to defend the unfairly oppressed in the upcoming sequel to the 2014 neo-noir film. According to Den of Geek, Sony has been getting the wheels turning pertaining to the film's sequel even before the first film hit theaters last year.
As reported by Comingsoon.net, although a deal is not yet in place, Washington is expected to reprise his role. Aside from Washington, no other actors from the previous film was mentioned to return, and Fuqua's return to direct has not been confirmed yet.
However, in another report, Fuqua revealed his willingness to return in the upcoming film. According to Fuqua, talks have been going on for the next film and added that as long as Washington and Sony are up for the project, he would love to get on board as well. ""Equalizer 2" they've talked to me about it and I'd like to do it if everybody decides to do it. They need to talk to me about it, but yeah, why not? I would love to do it", Fuqua said.
The director also added that he and Washington already discussed about the sequel, "No, no, we've talked about it. I'd love to do it. As long as he's doing it and Sony wants to do it, I'm in. No question about it. There's been no other conversations about anybody else as far as I know", Fuqua added.
Fuqua also revealed that negotiations are going on for the upcoming film, and that writers are currently hard at work on the script. The Equalizer was based on a tv series, and told a story of a retired black ops commando who gets out of his retirement to defend the helpless.
The Equalizer 2 is set to hit theaters in September 29, 2017. More details about the film are expected to be revealed as production makes progress.
