The Apple Inc. is requesting developers to make sure their version of Xcode is the legitimate one.
Recently, Apple's App Store was attacked by a malicious software affecting lots of Chinese applications. To prevent this from ever happening again, these applications were removed and developers are now requested to rebuild them using the legitimate version of the Xcode.
According to Talking New Media, XcodeGhost is a very damaging and destructive malware that has evaded Apple's code review and has already made extraordinary outbreaks on the iOS system. This method that hackers used in this attack helped them gain access to iOS devices.
Economic World said that with what happened, Apple Inc. has advised mobile application developers to verify their Xcode installations. The company reminded developers through an email as well as a message posted to the company's website that they should only run Xcode software that was downloaded straight from the Mac App Store or the Apple Developer site.
TechCrunch reported that this measure by Apple is a reminder that speaks to the issue of malware-laden Chinese developed applications that includes several big-name brands like WeChat, Didi Kuaidi (an Uber competitor), business card scanning app CamCard, and more.
Furthermore, if one of these apps is running on the user's device, they should change their Apple ID and password instantly, and then be cautious if they receive any suspicious emails or push notifications in the future, especially those that ask for personal information.
This malware was made to pull personal information from users' devices, including the device name, country and unique identifiers, the firm noted. It also said that this malicious software had been able to push dialog boxes to users' phones asking for personal information.
As this malware threatens the security of iOS users, Apple requested developers to make sure their version of Xcode is legitimate and validate in case of doubt to ensure the security of their users.
