Airbus Confirms US$11 Billion easyJet Order

On Tuesday, Airbus confirmed a deal valued roughly US$11 billion. The deal was to supply British budget airline easyJet with one hundred thirty five planes. The deal blew its US rival Boeing.

The airline firm announced during the second day of the Paris Airshow that easyJet has agreed to by 35 current generation A320 aircraft. One hundred new generation A320neo jets are also included in the deal with additional one hundred options.

The total price for the planes is around US$11.5 billion. However, easyJet stated that it had undergone negotiations for substantial discount.

In recent weeks, Airbus and Boeing have been pitching on commercial terms to the second biggest carrier in Europe. By the end of last week, Airbus became the front runner according to sources that told Reuters last Thursday.

Carolyn McCall, CEO for easyJet said that both plane manufacturers had competed hard for the deal. However, Airbus offered the company the best deal with greater discounts.

In 1995, easyJet started operations with Boeing aircraft. In 2002, they shifted to Airbus after a deal for 120 A319s plus a 120 further option.
