As Apple announced that Project Titan will be done by 2019, many people ranging from auto experts to tech geeks are looking forward to Apple's new electric car. Some say that the deadline is too ambitious even for Apple; however, leaked information reveals how the company plans to finish its car by 2019.
According to International Business Times, Apple might be setting a lofty goal of having Project Titan ready in just four years. The report stated that more than four years is needed to create a fully-functional automobile - from the designing stage to the production and marketing phase.
There are other reports saying that 2019 might not necessarily mean the selling date. Apple might be eyeing to have the car's design finalized by that time instead. Reactions of both consumers and analysts to Project Titan are both positive and negative.
To achieve its goal, Apple is reportedly speeding up its car-making process. Patently Apple reports that the Project Titan team tripled from 600 to 1,800 members, with auto industry veterans among them. The number surpassed Tesla's initial public offering prospectus of 514 employees as the report further states.
Another leak on Apple's Project Titan says that it will not be a fully autonomous car, says iSchoolGuide in a news article. Apple says it will be in the company's long-term plans though.
The electric car will have some automatic features similar to Tesla Model S P85D. It includes autonomous braking system, cruise control, and auto lane-changing system. Apple will reportedly use the platform and chassis of the electric BMW i3.
Project Titan is rumored to have a test run on the GoMentum Stadium which is often used for driverless car test runs. The car should also be tested to make sure it works smoothly in different temperatures and road surfaces.
Auto industry experts are curious as to how Apple will integrate its mobile software-hardware expertise into creating a fully functional electric car from the ground up. Billionare Carl Icahn says, "As a mobile device that is differentiated by design, brand, and consumer experience where software and services are increasingly critical, an Apple car would seem to be uniquely positioned."
