New characters will be revealed in the third season of "Penny Dreadful". It is reported that the dual personalities of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde as well as Dr. Seward, played by Patti LuPone, will join the season three of the series.
According to Christian Today, the role of Dr. Jekyll will be portrayed by actor Shazad Latif. He is best known for his performances on "Spooks" and "The Second Best Exotic Marigold Hotel." The publication added that Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is a brilliant doctor who was able to create a potion that turned him into a dual-personality criminal. It remains unknown which episode the new character will be introduced in the third season of "Penny Dreadful" and if he will be a mainstay.
It is also unknown if Dr. Jekyll will transform into Mr. Hyde and what the storyline will be of the character. In a report by Movie News Guide, showrunner John Logan revealed that he was excited to add another character in the series after two years but did not reveal if lawyer Gabriel John Utterson will also be featured upon Dr. Jekyll's entrance.
As for the new character of actress Patti LuPone, Realty Today shared that she will be playing the role of Dr. Seward. Seward was the head of an asylum in the novel "Dracula" and in "Penny Dreadful" season 3, she will be helping Vanessa in unconventional ways. LuPone's new role is this American therapist and it is possible that she will also help Dr. Jekyll with his situation. LuPone was first spotted in "Penny Dreadful" as the Cut-Wife in the episode entitled "Nightcomers."
Just a recap, "Penny Dreadful" season 2 ended with Evelyn being killed by Ethan when he was in werewolf form. Vanessa asked Ethan to run away with her but he rejected her. It was also revealed in the season finale that Ethan surrendered to Rusk and was brought back to America. It is still unknown if Vanessa and Ethan will still see each other in the show's upcoming episodes.
"Penny Dreadful" season 3 will see new characters such as Dr. Jekyll/Mr. Hyde and Patti LuPone's Dr. Seward. It is still under the wraps how these new characters will be intertwined in the plot. The series will be coming back by 2016 on Showtime.
