Matt Damon just opened up about his thoughts on gay actors revealing their sexuality in Hollywood. The actor suggested them to keep quiet about their sexuality if they want to be successful in Hollywood.

"The Good Will Hunting" actor shared a piece of himself and how he had to deal with gay allegations surrounding him and his friend Ben Affleck as he started off his career. The actor even insisted that the gay rumors put him in a very "awkward situation" for a long time. Damon told The Guardian, "When Ben and I first came on the scene there were rumors that we were gay because it was two guys who wrote a script together. I know. It's just like any piece of gossip... and it put us in a weird position of having to answer, you know what I mean?"

The 44- year old actor continued by remembering how Rupert Everett opened up about his sexuality. And he insisted that though the Everett was a classic trained actor and such a handsome- looking guy, it is hard to think that he didn't get through hard times as he admitted that he's gay.

According to Towleroad, Everett has previously claimed that being openly gay affected his acting career and as a result, he's urging young gay actors to stay in the closet and to not let anybody in Hollywood know about their sexuality. Everett bagged multiple allegations in the past by telling gay actors to stay in the closet and for coming out against same-sex families.

While Damon wasn't really suggestive of gay actors keeping their sexuality out of the public eye, he didn't even exactly support their decision to openly and honestly tell the whole world that they're gay. In fact, it's not the only time that the actor was faced with controversies because of his comments. According to HollywoodLife, he also recently been criticized after leaving comments in the season debut of his latest HBO program, "Project Greenlight".

He argued with "Dear White People" director Effie Brown. He told the director that diversity only matters when casting movie actors and not when it comes to choosing who plays behind the camera. But then, the controversial star later on explained his comments. He claimed that his point is to award the position to the directors based on their qualifications.

While the Damon insisted that although he has been vocal about his comments on sexuality, his intention is to not offend the gay community. And although Damon has stated that he refused to deny the rumors of his sexuality amidst rumors enfolding him and Affleck, he claimed that he remained quite because he did not want to cause offense his gay friends.
