Windows 10 mobile users were able to run the Android OS on Lumia phones. However, Microsoft has already sent out a patch that will fix the bug that allowed the interesting feature.
Shutting down the flaw in the Windows Phones is not Microsoft being a killjoy. The Android operating system has been known to be very vulnerable to exploits that hackers can use to compromise a device.
Apparently, Microsoft doesn't want that. It's enough that their mobile phones sector is not doing very well. Redmond certainly does not need another reason for mobile users to avoid their handsets. Despite the bug squashing, Windows Phones will still have the ability to run some Android apps. It can do so via Project Astoria, according to WCCFTech.
The trick was first demonstrated by WMPoweruser. They even posted a YouTube video of a Lumia 830 running the Android 5.0.2 Lollipop version. Only a few are able to do the trick WMPU did on the Lumia phone. The proprietary tools needed to conduct the Android OS trick come from Microsoft only, according to Ubergizmo.
Microsoft is betting big on its Windows 10 operating system across all platforms. The OS allows a user to seamlessly switch between mobile devices and desktop computers running several apps. One of the biggest highlights was that Android and iOS apps were welcome to be ported on the new Windows Phones. It could explain why the Android software was able to run on the Lumia.
Microsoft isn't the only one to consider Android compatibility for its software. Just recently, BlackBerry has confirmed the much-anticipated Priv handset, which will be powered by an Android operating system. The BlackBerry Priv features a slider, according to VentureBeat.
The demonstration could open up a few possibilities for Lumia phones. Microsoft could allow some of its phones to boot Android. However, there are already upcoming phones that support dual-booting between Windows and Android like the Elephone Vowney.
Microsoft has squashed the bug that allowed Android to run. Interested users should just rely on the incoming Android-based apps for the Windows 10 operating system.
