Street Fighter 5 will only have single version and will not get a re-release or further enhanced version after it launches in Spring next year. This news is confirmed by Capcom producer Matt Dahlgren at Tokyo Game Show 2015 stating that the upcoming fighting game will not be getting multiple versions post release. Meanwhile, the second beta test is all set to commence next week.
Unlike the past Street Fighter games where the developer would release enhanced versions of the game and call it "Super" or further enhance it and refer to it "Ultra" version, the new Street Fighter V will have only one version and will not be getting multiple versions, reports Heath Hindman of Playstation Lifestlyle in an interview with Dahlgren.
It appears that Capcom had realized that the problem with this approach is that in the long run, they are losing their gamers. As Dahlgren explained,
"One flaw with [that business model] is there's a lot of time to wait till there's (enough) new content, so there's nothing to look forward to in the short term. You only get an update like once every year or two. It also doesn't give players a lot of freedom, because they can either purchase all of the content or none of the content, because it's all bundled together.
"What you end up doing is you end up segmenting your community over time, not allowing it to grow but actually shrinking it.
"So we've done away with that model in favor of a completely new approach for Street Fighter V, which works a lot more in the players' best interests."
